Looks like nursing will be done within the next few days - I'm down to one feed every day and a half. I have totally mixed feelings, but overall coming out on top. I have a healthy, happy baby and I know I've done the best I possibly can for him, while keeping myself sane. I know some women love it, and all the power to them, but I know I've made it through all this being able to have Jeff feed Carson and now Carson is simply enjoying the bottle more then nursing, but he still loves me so it's all good :)
I bought his next car seat - the Alpha Omega Elite. We have to buy two, so going with the Britax Marathon (those are the two it came down to) just didn't make sense. The Alpha Omega is a rear-facing, front-facing and booster seat and the Marathon doesn't become a booster seat, so even if Carson grows out of the Alpha Omega, we will have to buy a booster seat - but we'd have to buy a booster seat for sure with the Marathon - so adding up all the pros and cons we went with the Elite. I bought one now and am on the list for them to call when their shipment comes in for #2. He is 27 inches, so he's technically grown out of his car seat (the one we have is 20 lbs, 26 inches) but I'm kicking my feet installing the new one. Now I can't just easily take the car seat out of the car and plop it into the shopping cart. I'll get it done this week, but not looking forward to it. Now my bjorn will get lots more use, that's for sure.
We had a joint Mom-Christy-Rob birthday party yesterday - tons of food, tons of people, and tons of kids in the pool. It was a really great time and my mom LOVED the convertible we borrowed for her. Her friends and her went to the casino and drove through the market, I love that she had a good time.
Jeff's golfing with Peter and his brothers today, so Carson and I are going to do a bit of shopping (including Jacob Connexion, Chapters, Winners, Pier 1 Imports) and then coming home for our afternoon nap. I may have to get a special fun drink at Starbucks.

He's almost six months isn't he? That's a pretty good run with nursing!
I have to try Kailey on pablum soon... she's SUCH a hungry monkey.
Granma gave Kailey a bottle--looks like its just me and Jon who can't! Probably because Jon always sits next to me when I nurse her.
Good call on the carseat - are the maximum heights comparable for the Alpha and the Marathon? That's what made the decision for me in the end (with the Marathon) - Raiya's a tall baby (she's about 27" now, and we don't want to buy yet ANOTHER carseat b/c she outgrows the height. I also think there's a minimum age before you can move them to the booster, and I didn't want to get caught in between.
Two carseats - that's tough! I guess it's a pain to move things from car to car...
As for your nursing coming to an end, I think you've done amazing - look at how well Carson is thriving. Just for my own info (when I start to wean) - you still have decent supply even though you nurse him every 1.5 days?
Hope you're having a good weekend, my dear. We're off to grandma and grandpa's for dinner in a short while..
Thanks ladies (re: nursing) I'm only nursing every day and a half or so to "relieve" myself, but I think in about a day or two I'll be done. It still builds up and gets a bit uncomfortable. I could probably keep going with one nurse a day, but now it's me being a bit selfish and I feel like I'm done.
The Marathon is a better for the max heights, but if I would have to buy a booster seat anyways with the Marathon and only *maybe* with the Alpha, I figure I'm better off with the Alpha.
Neither Jeff or I are that tall (I'm about 5'3" and Jeff's about 5'10") so I don't think Carson will be super tall and if he does grow out of it, well we'll deal with it then. And yeah the whole two carseat thing helped our decision to go with the cheaper one.
Sonya - hope you had a good dinner.
Desa - it won't hurt to try cereal and if she doesn't seem ready, you can just try again in a few weeks! Kailey is such a nursing little girl! Carson never had a problem with Jeff or I giving him a bottle - he's a piggy pig like mommy and daddy :)
Another nursing question for you.:-)
Hubby and I are going on a trip at the end of June...sans baby. It's going to be tough (I keep changing my mind everyday as to whether we should go b/c I'll miss Raiya like crazy), but I think we need a bit of some "couple" time. We're going for two nights, and we'll probably be gone for about 2.5 days, roughly.
Based on your description of nursing, C takes the bottle most of the time, and nurses with you every 1.5 days...does he have a problem latching onto you?
I'm asking, b/c if I'd like Raiya to latch when we come back, I'm VERY paranoid that she won't anymore...but it sounds like at this age (over 5 months), they'll figure out the latching thing easily?
Thanks for all your help.;-)
Carson never had problems with latching. I'm done nursing now (completely) but even if I hadn't nursed him for a day, he still latched on. We started him on a bottle early, so he was used to bottle and nursing the entire time. R takes a bottle too, no? I don't think there should be a problem with latching - I think the reason why Carson preferred the bottle is he got more bang for his buck :) I say go for it - couple time sounds WONDERFUL and I don't think there will be a problem coming back. Fun!!
Thanks, Christy. Yes, Raiya takes the bottle (once/day) - but I'm wondering what will happen if she has nothing but bottles for 2.5 days....I'm really hoping that she still latches onto me.;-)
Know what you mean about the babies liking the faster flow - Raiya finishes her bottle in five minutes flat - especially at night.
You're done nursing now? Hats off to you, my dear - you did a wonderful job.
oh, I just looked up my carseat--mine is for 22lbs and 29inches. Which is good, b/c Kailey is already 25.5 inches!
