Picnic time!

With a forecast of 18 degrees, I had no other choice than to bring the kids out to the beach for a picnic. Carson had wanted to go to the ocean, and this apparently sufficed. For now. He still talks about the ocean in PEI daily so I can't wait till this summer when we finally head out there.

I packed a huge picnic lunch, a mat, towels, drinks, change of clothes, rainboots, toys and of course... my camera. Here we are, in the hot hot sun.

I always love going back to a park you haven't been in a while. It always amazes me to see what Carson can do, that he wasn't able to do the last time. I was sitting on the blanket with Beckett while Carson ran off and did his thing.

The day was SO nice, I didn't even argue with Carson about nap/rest time, so I let him play outside the rest of the afternoon. There were a ton of kids on the street and he had a blast. Nearing supper he was so exhausted and he was a chore the rest of the night and although he would never admit it, I'd say he was pretty happy to get into bed (not as happy as me though!)

The big kids were playing hockey, so I told him to stand back and just watch for a while. I said when the little kids were playing he could play.
He didn't take the news too well.

Street hockey

I know, I know, same old same old. But look how determined he is! We were outside playing with the sidewalk chalk and then the two boys from across the street came home. As they pulled into their driveway, Carson looks at me and says "Mommy, Nicholas and Michele are home. We're going to play hockey". Then he runs in the garage and gets his hockey stick and puck. He's an addict.

We left for Grandma and Nono's shortly after, and I was pulling the van out of the driveway Carson said "Mommy, go the other way. Don't knock over the kids. I don't want my friends to be broken". How freaking cute?! I love the things that comes out of that boy's mouth!

Tomorrow we are going to scope out the beach - Carson was quite upset today that we couldn't go to the ocean at Grammy and Grampy's (like meltdown upset), so I'm hoping the "beach" will satisfy his need.

Nap time!

We still can't believe

How wonderful this weather is! It went up to 16 degrees here in Ottawa today. We spent hours and hours outside. I've said it before, and I will say it again. I'm such a better parent when it's nice weather. When we can be outside. And, we spend every possible minute that we can outside.

I haven't written much about the kiddies lately.

Beckett: his top two eyeteeth are coming in. He wants to be part of the vampire trend! And just like his older brother, he doesn't fuss too much with his incoming teeth. That child is sweet, sweet, sweet. For a long while he was pretty straight faced, but now he gives the BEST smiles. He plays shy and snuggles into my shoulder when someone talks to him, but before he turns away he'll flash you an incredible smile. He never cries. Seriously. That child never cries. Except when he goes down for his afternoon nap. But he doesn't cry during the day. He's just happy. All the time. It's crazy! Actually, today he started to cry because he was playing with a stick and I took it away. I couldn't stand to hear him cry so I gave him his stick back :)

Carson: is growing up every day. The stories he makes up, the things he says, the way he acts... it's always changing. So quickly. He's making friends at the park, sharing his toys, taking turns and playing so well. He is more agreeable then not, he's happy, he's sweet and he loves his family. I love him and am really loving the time we have together.

Together

I know I've written a lot about how much the boys love being together. I probably write about it so much because it makes me SO happy that already they have this bond, they are the most important people to each other it seems.

Carson is beyond excited that we can finally use our Chariot as a stroller. In our other stroller, they don't face the same way so they can't see each other. These days we are travelling the neighbourhood with this stroller and I pile toys in, put a blanket on for Beckett and off we go. All the while we are walking, I hear Beckett babbling, Carson trying to make Beckett laugh, Carson pointing out all the things we are seeing, and the occassional "Hey Beckett, give me back my garbage truck"

I see us spending lots of time and travelling lots of places this summer.

Our day today

I think it's pretty much like this across the country - but spring has definitely sprung! It's so nice outside! The snow is melting, the sun is shining, the birds are singing and we spend every minute we can possibly spare outside.

We spend the majority of the time in our driveway - it's somewhere I can leave the babe on his own and play with Carson. He loves just watching us anyways. And in the sun? No complaints there.

And for the first time ever, Carson had someone call on him! The two boys across the street love playing street hockey with him. And after their early afternoon game of street hockey I had Carson come inside for a nap for a little while.

(he's basically given up his nap but I try to get him to have a rest time while Beckett is sleeping - but Beckett doesn't really have an afternoon nap so after about 1/2 hour they are both up, I really dont' want to spend my afternoon inside trying to get boys to sleep instead of simply enjoying our time together)

Then the boys came over, rang the doorbell and asked if he could come out to play! I swear I had little tears in my eyes! He went out to play with them, and then I actually stayed inside to make dinner while he stayed outside. Unsupervised play (by me) with friends! Playing street hockey!

Proud daddy moment

Last night I was inside feeding Beckett and making the salad for dinner while Jeff and Carson were outside BBQing.

The door from the garage opens and Jeff says (with the biggest smile on his face) "You gotta come see this". I go outside, see why Jeff looked the way he did and ran back inside for my camera.

And yes, that is Jeff scoring against the children who are 1/8th his age :)
